Kai Moana

This week we have started exploring different perspectives of the discovery of Aotearoa, New Zealand.  We looked at Maori myth called Kupe and Te Wheke. We found Hawaii and New Zealand on a world map and learned the power of perseverance.  But one aspect of this experience was a hit: exploring the ocean life (real and fake), including a picture of a baby shark found on the beach after the Gabrielle cyclone.

Welcome to Room 25.

This is our first post of the year. Whew! what a start . I hope that everyone is getting over all our natural disasters.

The students of Room 25 have defintely demonstrated our school values and are moving the New Windsor Way. We have been resilient and have been doing our best to come to school everyday. We have been working hard in class and have been enjoying our learning.

Here we are on a hot Friday afternoon enjoying the cool outdoors with a quiet and fun activity. We are so fortunate to have such a beautiful view of the Waitakere ranges.

Here we are sketching the beautiful landscape.

Waitangi Day Play

We celebrated Waitangi Day by learning about this special day for all Kiwis through a play. We’ve had groups of people arriving in Aotearoa in a waka and a ship. The Maori people were guided by the stars and Maui dolphins. We tried to lead a ‘normal’ life by fishing but argued with the other groups. We had to work out our problems and we signed the treaty.  We had wonderful Maori chief and crown representatives. We also learned a new song together.  Mahi tahi-working together, already. And that’s Collaboration.
